ADJ's Focus Spot Two: Feature-Rich Magnificent Moving Head Club Light

2nd Sep 2016

Sitting between the Focus Spot One and Focus Spot Three Z in the new ADJ Focus Series, the Focus Spot Two is a compact, yet very powerful, LED-powered moving head spot fixture. Packed with professional features not usually seen on a moving head of its size, and certainly not on one at its price, the Focus Spot Two is ideal for a variety of applications from installation in churches and leisure venues to mobile production work.

Focus Spot Two At A Glance:
• 75W LED Moving Head + 3W UV LED
• Motorized Focus
• Manual Zoom (15 to 20-degrees)
• EZ Gobo Replacement
• Gobo Indexing
• 6-facet Prism
• PowerCon In/Out

Powered by a potent 75 Watt cool-white LED light-source, the Focus Spot Two is capable of producing impactful midair beam effects as well as cutting through ambient lighting to project vivid GOBO patterns on stage or on the floor, roof or walls of a venue. In addition, the unit is also fitted with a 3W UV LED, which can be used on its own to create glowing black light effects or together with the main output to create UV-infused moving projections.

The Focus Spot Two features a dedicated GOBO wheel that offers six slots in addition to open spot. Although provided with a full set of GOBO patterns as standard, each GOBO can be replaced with other custom patterns. This is incredibly easy to do thanks to the inclusion of ADJ’s EZ GOBO Replacement feature. Only a single screw needs to be removed to open the fixture’s cover to access the GOBO wheel, slip out an existing pattern and slot in a new one. This makes the Focus Spot Two ideal for projecting company logos at corporate parties; the bridal couple’s initials at a wedding; and countless other kinds of customized pattern for every imaginable type of special event.

Each of the GOBOs can be rotated continuously in either direction at variable speed. What’s more, the GOBOs are also indexed, allowing for precise positioning via DMX. This means that the rotational position of a GOBO can be stored as part of a DMX Scene, which means that you can rest assured that your custom GOBOs will always be projected the right way up, wherever you choose to project them.

Ensuring that GOBO patterns are always crisp and clear, regardless of the projection distance, is also made possible by the Focus Spot Two thanks to motorized focus, a feature found on all of the fixtures in the Focus series. Meanwhile, a GOBO shake function is ideal for creating impactful high-energy effects.

A separate color wheel allows the light beam to be saturated in a choice of eight vivid colors, in addition to open white. The color wheel can also be positioned between two adjacent slots to create eye-catching split-color effects. Offering even more creative potential, the unit also boasts a 6-facet prism, while electronic dimming can be used to alter the beam intensity and variable speed strobing adds another option for high-impact effects.

Further adding to its flexibility, the Focus Spot Two offers a variable beam angle of between 15 and 20-degrees. The angle is easy to alter manually on the unit, allowing a wider angle to be selected for smaller spaces where the beam throw will be shorter or a tighter angle for larger venues where the beam will cover a large distance before hitting projection surfaces such as the ceiling or walls.

Three operational modes make the Focus Spot Two a flexible fixture, ideal for a variety of different applications. It is supplied pre-programmed with four varied light shows, which can be easily set to run in either Show Mode – at a user-selected preset speed – or Sound Active – triggered by the unit’s internal microphone. Multiple fixtures can then be linked together using XLR cables to create a larger moving light show without the need for any programming. The fixture is also compatible with ADJ’s UC IR infrared remote as well as ADJ’s Airstream IR iOS-based phone/tablet remote control system, both of which are sold separately and offer basic control of the unit.

Of course, to make full use of the Focus Spot Two’s extensive feature set, you’ll likely want to use it in conjunction with a DMX controller or software system. For this, there is a choice of two different modes: 16 and 18 channel. Mode selection, as well as DMX addressing, is made easy thanks to a large back-lit LCD display screen on the base of the unit.

Measuring 6.75” x 9.25” x 15.25” (173 x 237 x 385mm) and weighing just 16 lbs. (7.3 kgs.), the Focus Spot Two is easily portable, taking up minimal storage and transportation space. It is also ideal for installation in venues with low ceilings. It is supplied with an omega bracket allowing rigging to a lighting stand or truss system, in any orientation, and is also fitted with rubber feet allowing the unit to be operated standing upright on the floor or on a stage or riser.

Thanks to its compact size, the Focus Spot Two is capable of extremely fast movement. It’s wide pan range of 540-degrees and large tilt angle of 230-degrees means it has a large reach, while stepper motors with micro stepping and 16-bit fine movement control allow for precise positioning.

Professional-grade PowerCon power input and output connections are fitted to the Focus Spot Two, which lock into place ensuring that the power supply to the unit isn’t accidently pulled out during a show. The output socket can be used to link together the power supply for multiple fixtures (up to 14 at 120V or 26 at 240V), which reduces the number of power cables required, making for quicker setups and tidier rigs. An omega bracket is included in the Focus Spot Two box so that the fixute may be used with a clamp and attached to truss or pipe.

Thanks to its powerful light-source and advanced features, including easily replaceable indexed rotating GOBOs and motorized focus, the ADJ Focus Spot Two is ideal for a host of professional lighting applications. Despite its compact size and low cost, it has a feature set that surpasses any other fixture in its class making it the ideal choice for any fixed installation or temporary event that requires powerful mid-air effects, custom GOBO projections and dynamic movement.
