• Rod length: Choose usable length for the barrel while allowing room for handles and attachments.
• Caliber or gauge: Match every brush, jag, mop and patch size to the manufacturer's listed range.
• Thread pattern: Verify rod, brush, jag and adapter threads before combining components.
• Bore brushes: Compare bronze, nylon and other materials according to the intended cleaning task.
• Jags and mops: Match dimensions, attachment threads and material to the caliber and method.
• Cleaning patches: Choose patch dimensions and thickness that pass through the bore without binding.
• Adapters and storage: Confirm required adapters and keep small components organized by caliber or gauge.
